While players playing in high level tournaments know that they and their partner must have a convention card handy which sets out how they bid and defend so opponents can play accordingly, convention cards seldom make an appearance at ordinary club sessions. However, they can serve two other useful purposes:

1) a structured means for you and your partner to document your playing agreement and

2) a checklist non beginners can prepare ahead of taking lessons which will guide their teacher on what to cover.
